Indole alkaloids from Muntafara sessilifolia with antiplasmodial and cytotoxic activities

► EtOAc extract of the stem bark of M. sessilifolia was active against P. falciparum. ► A monomeric acyl indole and four bisindoles alkaloids were isolated. ► NMR experiments were performed at low temperature for bisindoles linked at C-3/C-10. ► Compound 2 displayed potent antiplasmodial activity (4.4 μM, S.I = 48). ► Tabernaelegantine B and D were active against MRC-5 and L6 cells.
