Ferredoxin:NADP+ oxidoreductase as a target of Cd2+ inhibitory action - Biochemical studies

► Cadmium ions may bind weakly and strongly to ferredoxin:NADP+ oxidoreductase molecule. ► Binding is dependent on protonation of thiol groups of cysteinyl residues. ► Cadmium binding results in inhibition of electron transfer catalysed by the enzyme. ► The type of inhibition may be described as almost pure noncompetitive.
