Dalnigrin, a neoflavonoid marker for the identification of Brazilian rosewood (Dalbergia nigra) in CITES enforcement

The neoflavonoid dalnigrin is a characteristic constituent of heartwood of the legume Dalbergia nigra (Brazilian rosewood) that is not present in the anatomically-similar wood of Dalbergia spruceana. This chemical distinction improves the identification of timber samples suspected to be Brazilian rosewood and enhances the enforcement of CITES regulations, which list D. nigra but not D. spruceana.
