The defensive functions of plant inhibitors are not restricted to insect enzyme inhibition

The study addressed the defensive role of plant protease inhibitors, including presence of the functional domain. A very short functional domain with less than 10 amino acids, which is not directly involved in proteinase inhibitory activity, was found to be crucial for the toxic effect of PI.
