Diversity, regulation, and evolution of the gibberellin biosynthetic pathway in fungi compared to plants and bacteria

Bioactive gibberellins (GAs) are plant hormones that control growth and development in higher plants. GAs also occur in fungi and some bacteria. Profound differences in the GA pathways and enzymes indicate that higher plants and fungi, as well as potentially bacteria, have independently evolved GA biosynthetic pathways.
