Effect of simulated gastrointestinal conditions and epithelial transport on extracts of green tea and sage

The environment of the gastrointestinal system is bound to have an effect on orally ingested medicinal plant products possibly affecting biological activity and bioavailability. This is investigated in vitro using antimicrobial activity as a model and qualitative LC-UV-MS analysis. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) decreased for both green tea and sage after exposure to simulated gastrointestinal conditions.
