Tuning the anion binding properties of calixpyrroles by means of p-nitrophenyl substituents at their meso-positions

meso-p-Nitrophenyl-substituted calix[4] and calix[6]pyrroles were synthesized and tested as receptors for the binding of halogen anions. The X-ray crystal structures of the calix[4] derivatives were also solved.
