Alkali metal induced effects on coadsorbed carbon monoxide on Co(0Â 0Â 0Â 1): A density functional theory study

► Alkali atom strongly enhances the stabilization of CO with Co(0 0 0 1) surface. ► Alkali atom lowers the surface potential around CO molecule and weakens the CO bond. ► AM-induced effects are dependent on the coverage of CO. ► AM-induced effects on CO molecule are a short-range electrostatic attraction.
