Atomic oxygen adsorption on Au (1Â 0Â 0) and bimetallic Au/M (MÂ =Â Pt and Cu) surfaces

► Atomic oxygen adsorption on Au (1 0 0) and Au/M (1 0 0) surfaces has been examined. ► Adsorption energies are higher for Au-M than for Au-M-Au (M = Cu, Pt). ► At low coverage, the adsorption energy for Au-Cu is higher than for Au-Pt. ► Au-Cu-Au (1 0 0) has the largest shift in d-band center and the lowest binding energy.
