• We succeeded in controlled arrays of Au capped with protected ligand on resulting Au nanopatterns.
• The difference in attachment behaviors by chain length of protected ligands was observed.
• A nanoscale reaction field can be used in order to observe single biomolecule such as DNA and so on.
A novel facile method is described for controlled arrays of gold (Au) nanoparticles capped with protecting ligand on Au nanopatterns fabricated by electron beam lithography and lift-off. We succeeded in nano reaction field which is controlled arrays of Au capped with protected ligand on the resulting Au nano-patterns such as line and space and dots. Spherical Au nanoparticles capped with water-soluble dithiols were immobilized above Au nanopatterns. This method enables the fabrication of arrays of nanoparticles capped with protecting ligand on the resulting Au nano-patterns. In particular we succeeded in the formation of nano reaction field of one Au nanoparticle capped with 3,6-dioxa-1,8-octanedithiol on a less than 100 nm dot. This nano reaction field can be used in order to observe single biomolecule such as DNA, peptides, nucleic acids, proteins and cell.
