Electronic structure of LBO and BBO as revealed by boron and oxygen RIXS spectra

► The RIXS spectra of the widely used nonlinear optical materials LBO and BBO have been measured. ► The confirmation of two different chemical environments of the oxygen atoms in BBO. ► A boron core exciton has been found in both LBO and BBO.
