Spectra energy levels and symmetry assignments of Sm3+ doped in YAl3(BO3)4 single crystal

► Optical polarized absorption and emission spectra of Sm3+ doped in YAl3(BO3)4 are reported at low and room temperatures. ► All the detected lines are attributed to Sm3+ 4f internal transitions in D3 symmetry site. ► Stark energy levels are calculated with respect to their symmetry types. ► NV oscillator strength parameter shows a general trend along the rare earth elements.
