Structural and luminescent characteristics of two-step processed BaAl2−xSixO4−xNx:Eu2+ phosphors

► The effect of (SiN)+ addition on optical properties of BaAl2O4:Eu phosphors is studied. ► (SiN)+ addition results in shortening of lattice parameters and cell volume decreases. ► The peak emission wavelength red shifts with increase in (SiN)+ addition. ► Nitrogen is being incorporated in to host lattice even after phase segregation.
