Naphthalene-based fluorophores: Synthesis characterization, and photophysical properties

► 1,8-Diarylnaphthalenes and 1,8-diarylethynylnaphthalenes were synthesized. ► Emission of these compounds depended on solvent polarity and environmental acidity. ► Some 1,8-diarylnaphthalenes exhibited aggregation-induced emission enhancement.
