Luminescence study of self-trapped excitons in CdMoO4

► Self-trapped exciton luminescence in CdMoO4 is examined in a range of T=5-300 K. ► Combined action of Jahn-Teller instability and crystal field plays a crucial role for self-trapping of excitons. ► The excited sublevels are group-theoretically assigned.
