Broadband near infrared quantum cutting in Bi-Yb codoped Y2O3 transparent films on crystalline silicon

► The downconversion Y2O3:Bi,Yb films has good transparency. ► Y2O3:Bi,Yb films possess a broadband absorption in the UV region of 300-400 nm. ► The films may have potential application in enhancing the efficiency of c-Si cells.
