Luminescence of dense, octahedral structured crystalline silicon dioxide (stishovite)

► Luminescence center of dense SiO2 stishovite exists in as grown single crystals. ► Two bands one at 3 eV (17 μs) and another at 4.7 eV (1.2 ns) are detected. ► OH group in stishovite crystal has influence on luminescence center. ► center of stishovite resembles oxygen deficient center of silica glass. ► It also resembles damaging radiation induced center of α-quartz crystal.
