Luminescence properties of MgO produced by solution combustion synthesis and doped with lanthanides and Li

► Li doping can increase considerably the intensity of the RL and TL from MgO:Ln. ► In MgO:Ln,Li lanthanides are responsible for emission during RL and TL processes. ► The incorporation of lanthanides introduces trapping centers as indicated by TL curves. ► SCS can produce TL materials with sensitivity comparable to commercial dosimeters
