Coherent information storage with photon echoes produced by switching electric fields

We demonstrate modified photon echoes in Eu3+:Y2SiO5 by controlling the inhomogeneous broadening of the F07↔D05 optical transition in Eu3+. These modified photon echoes are shown to be capable of storing phase and amplitude modulation.
