Full quantum-mechanical treatment for spatiotemporal dynamics of electrons and holes in a quantum wire coupled to a thermal reservoir

We present a full-quantum mechanical framework for describing the intraband relaxation (thermalization) dynamics after photoexcitation to a one-dimensional semiconductor coupled to an acoustic-phonon reservoir. Solving the quantum damping equations of relevant physical quantities, our numerical study clarifies how electrons and holes relax toward a quasiequilibrium state within an interband recombination lifetime taking into account the Coulomb (excitonic) correlation among the carriers. Our framework can trace the dynamics not only in time domain but also in real space. Numerical results of time- and space-resolved optical spectra as well as the particle density distribution functions are calculated and discussed.
