Investigation of steric effect in the formation of hydrogen-bonded complexes of isomeric chlorophenols with N,N-dimethylaniline

The formation constants (K) of the hydrogen bonded complexes between DMA and two isomeric chlorophenols (o-CP and m-CP) are determined by ultrasonic and UV spectral methods. More stable complex is formed in the case of m-CP than o-CP indicating the steric influence of chlorine substituent at ortho position in the formation of H-bonded complexes.140
