A simple and effective route for preparation of platinum nanoparticle and its application for electrocatalytic oxidation of methanol and formaldehyde

Schematic preparation of Pt nanoparticles modified glassy carbon electrode. The Pt nanoparticles (Pt-NPs) were fabricated through a simple and quick method via galvanic replacement reaction with Ni nanoparticles (Ni-NPs) based on spontaneous and irreversible reaction between PtCl62 − and Ni-NPs. The Ni-NPs were completely replaced by Pt-NPs in H2SO4 solution. The results showed that the Pt-NPs demonstrate excellent electrocatalytic activity towards methanol and formaldehyde oxidation.176
