J-type aggregation of squaraine dye Sq-2Me in surfactant solutions

► Anionic surfactant SDS promotes the dye Sq-2Me ordered aggregation. ► In SDS micelles Sq-2Me forms J-type dimers of co-planar inclined geometry. ► Incorporation of another dye DiI into SDS micelles prevents the dimer formation.
