Methyl group internal rotation and the choice of Hamiltonian for the rotational spectrum of 1,1-difluoroacetone

► We record the first rotational spectra for 1,1-difluoroacetone using broadband rotational spectroscopy. ► We analyze the spectra using a variety of methods which are shown to be equivalent. ► We have discovered that the choice of Hamiltonian reduction is crucial.
