Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT): Induction of DNA damage in plant and mammalian cells

► MWCNT induces chromosomal aberrations, DNA fragmentation and apoptosis in Allium. ► Presence of “black dots” in Allium root cells confirmed internalization of MWCNT. ► MWCNT induced DNA damage and apoptosis in human lymphocytes. ► MN and comet assays in bone marrow cells in vivo revealed genotoxicity. ► Study results indicate crosslink formation by MWCNT with DNA.
