Enhanced photocatalytic activity of Bi2WO6 with oxygen vacancies by zirconium doping

► Oxygen vacancies were introduced into Bi2WO6 photocatalyst by zirconium doping. ► Zr4+-doped Bi2WO6 showed much enhanced photocatalytic activity. ► Oxygen vacancies can promote the separation of charge carriers and reduction of O2.
