Assessment of developmental delay in the zebrafish embryo teratogenicity assay

► We improved characterization of the endpoints related to developmental retardation. ► We explored acetylcholinesterase activity as alternative to morphological endpoints. ► Performance of morphological score, AChE activity and head-trunk angle is comparable. ► AChE activity particularly sensitive to detect delay in the absence of malformations.
