Relating micromechanical properties and mineral densities in severely suppressed bone turnover patients, osteoporotic patients, and normal subjects

► SSBT patients had atypical fractures while on bisphosphonates. ► Mechanical property-mineralization relationships examined in iliac biopsy tissue. ► SSBT, non-treated osteoporotic, age-matched normal and young normal groups compared. ► These relationships differed by fracture status and by age group. ► Bone tissue-level quality may be an important determinant of fracture risk.
