Micro-structural basis for particular vulnerability of the superolateral neck trabecular bone in the postmenopausal women with hip fractures

► We analyzed trabecular bone micro-architecture of the femoral neck in elderly women. ► We compared the micro-architecture between women with hip fracture and controls. ► Trabecular micro-architecture is more deteriorated in women with hip fracture than in controls. ► Women with hip fracture display preferential impairment of trabeculae in the superolateral neck region.
