Novel adsorbent of polymeric complex derived from chaleting resin with Cu(II) and its removal properties for cyanide in aqueous solution
چکیده انگلیسی

• Novel polymeric complex adsorbent for removing cyanide was successfully synthesized.
• All synthesized processes were done at moderate conditions.
• The resulting adsorbent has excellent adsorption for cyanide in aqueous solution.
• The adsorption rate is very fast and reached the equilibrium adsorption soon.

A new kind of polymeric complex adsorbent for removing cyanide in aqueous solution was prepared by coordination reaction of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid chelating resin based on macroporous polystyrene (PS-EDTA resin) and copper(II). The resulting adsorbents were characterized by means of FT-IR and Raman spectra and were employed in the purification treatment of wastewater containing cyanide. Meanwhile, the adsorption behaviors of the adsorbents for cyanide in aqueous solutions, including adsorption kinetics and equilibrium, were investigated in a batch-mode operation in order to assess its possible applications for removal of cyanide contaminant from water environment. The effects of initial concentration of cyanide, contact time, pH, adsorbent dosage and temperature on their adsorption behaviors were studied by determination of cyanide content and the kinetic results could correlate well with pseudo-second-order model. Furthermore, the adsorption isotherm data were also fitted well to Langmuir and Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherms. The adsorption capacity for cyanide was calculated as 101.53 mg/g at 298 K.

The ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid modified macroporous polystyrene (PS-EDTA resin) chelated with copper(II) could effectively remove cyanide form aqueous phase.Figure optionsDownload as PowerPoint slide
