A novel route for preparation of high-performance porous carbons from hydrochars by KOH activation

- Hydrochars was an excellent precursor to prepare high-performance porous carbon.
- The porous carbons exhibited high specific surface area and large pore volume.
- The porous carbons showed localized graphitic structure.
- The products possessed good electrochemical performance.
- This route could be extended to other biomass and industrial wastewater containing carbohydrates.
