Foam stability in the presence of oil: Effect of surfactant concentration and oil type

- Foaming behavior of selected commercial surfactants was studied in absence and in presence of alkane-type oils.
- C14-16 AOS surfactant exhibited a good foamability in presence of alkanes with different carbon chains.
- AOS foam stability was influenced by alkane chain length: the lower the chain length, the higher the tendency of alkane to destabilize foam.
- Lower foam stability in presence of short chain alkane was described by a large value of spreading and bridging coefficients.
- Higher foam stability in presence of long chain alkane was attributed to the accumulation of oil droplets in the Plateau borders.
