The immobilization of conducting poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)–poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT–PSS) nanoparticles by Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) technique has been reported. Composite films of ODA/PEDOT–PSS and ODA–SA/PEDOT–PSS were fabricated by LB inducing deposition method. The surface pressure (π)–area (A) isotherm of the composite monolayer at air/liquid interface was studied. The result shows that there is the intense electrostatic force between SO3−-group of PSS and NH3+-group of aliphatic amine. The solid composite LB film was investigated by UV–vis spectrum, atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) method. The results show that ODA–SA/PEDOT–PSS had higher film-processing capability than ODA/PEDOT–PSS film. Electrostatic force between ODA and PEDOT–PSS was confirmed by XPS analysis. An intensity enhancement of S (2p) of PEDOT in composite LB films comparing with spin-coated PEDOT–PSS films was observed. Electrical characteristic of these composite LB films was measured and the conductive mechanism of composite films was also included.
