Treating epilepsy: A review of Polish historical sources

► Polish historical publications on epilepsy dating from 16th century are reviewed. ► Medieval publications divided causes into internal (causa interna) and external (causa externa). ► Medieval medical treatments for epilepsy included surgical and pharmacological interventions. ► First publications on epilepsy are foundation of our current knowledge and, as primitive as they are, deserve recognition.
