The role of high-quality EEG databases in the improvement and assessment of seizure prediction methods

► The availability of comprehensive EEG databases is of crucial importance for seizure prediction. ► Early studies were based on selected short-term recordings including few seizures. ► Database size was found to be negatively correlated with prediction performance. ► Currently, a European Union-funded database is being compiled that includes recordings of 275 patients and will be available to the public in 2012.
