Lacosamide in the treatment of acute recurrent seizures and periodic epileptiform patterns in critically ill patients

► Lacosamide is a potent antiepileptic drug available in an intravenous formulation. ► 12 of 17 patients with recurrent seizures responded to lacosamide. ► Lacosamide appears to be effective in levetiracetam-refractory patients. ► Its efficacy is comparable to that of other antiepileptic drugs. ► No significant side effects were noted.
