Neural precursors (NPCs) from adult L967Q mice display early commitment to “in vitro” neuronal differentiation and hyperexcitability

► Intrinsic hyperexcitability is observed in NPCs and neurons obtained from wobbler mouse NPCs. ► Na current density and spike generation increase during in vitro differentiation of NPCs. ► NPCs from the SVZ provide an in vitro model to study the discharge properties of cortical neurons. ► NPCs may provide an “in vitro” model to study cortical hyperexcitability of ALS patients. ► NPCs may help to identify pharmacological tools to counteract neurodegeneration in ALS.
