In vivo monitoring of recovery from neurodegeneration in conditional transgenic SCA1 mice

► Neurodegeneration is reversible with doxycycline in a conditional SCA1 mouse model. ► We studied this model by high field magnetic resonance spectroscopy and histology. ► Abnormal neurochemical levels normalized upon doxycycline treatment. ► They correlated significantly with semi-quantitative measures of pathology. ► MRS biomarkers can be used to monitor reversal of neurodegeneration.
