Effects of heat shock protein 72 (Hsp72) on evolution of astrocyte activation following stroke in the mouse

► After stroke Hsp72 overexpression results in more downregulated genes relative to WT. ► More inflammation associated genes increase in WT mice. ► The density of reactive astrocytes is reduced with Hsp72 overexpression. ► Different phenotypes of reactive astrocytes in the penumbra are observed with time.
