► SK channel function is significantly reduced in epileptic tissue. ► SK channel blockade leads to exacerbation of epileptiform activity. ► Loss of SK function in epileptic tissue is due to downregulation of SK2 mRNA. ► Western blot confirms reduced expression of SK2 channel protein.
