Does gene deletion of AMPA GluA1 phenocopy features of schizoaffective disorder?

► AMPA GluA1 knockout mice (KO) show depression- and schizophrenia-related behaviors. ► Here we tested GluA1 KO for mania-related abnormalities. ► KO showed manic-like behavior, including locomotor hyperactivity, in various tests. ► Lithium treatment normalized some of these behaviors and prefrontal abnormalities. ► GluA1 KO may provide a novel tool for studying schizoaffective disorder.
