Duration of prior vancomycin therapy and subsequent daptomycin treatment outcomes in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia

The association between varying durations of previous vancomycin therapy and subsequent daptomycin success rates was evaluated in a subset of patients with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia from the Cubicin® Outcomes Registry and Experience 2005-2009 (n = 159). Previous vancomycin exposure did not adversely affect daptomycin outcomes; success rates were 81% in patients treated with first-line daptomycin and 89%, 83%, and 88%, respectively, in patients with 1-3 days, 4-6 days, and ≥7 days of previous vancomycin exposure (P = 0.5).
