Effect of mixed infections of Sindbis and La Crosse viruses on replication of each virus in vitro

The effect of mixed viral infections of La Crosse and Sindbis virus in vertebrate (BHK) and invertebrate (C6/36) cell lines was found to be dependent on both cell type and the order in which mixed infections occurred. Notably, coinfection of La Crosse and Sindbis in C6/36 cells resulted in a 4.7-fold increase in Sindbis titer relative to when Sindbis virus infection C6/36 cells alone. Within the vertebrate BHK cell line, mixed viral infections significantly suppressed La Crosse and Sindbis titer for most but not all infection treatments.
