Cystic echinococcosis in sheep in Sardinia. Changing pattern and present status

► Last cystic echinococcosis control attempt in Sardinia dates to 1980s. ► Profound structural changes since then have modified the transmission scenario. ► Current status and trend of prevalence in sheep is examined for two survey periods. ► CE burden has diminished but spread persists particularly in less favoured areas. ► CE persists despite improvements, exposing to possible reversal of decreasing trend.
