Knowledge and interests of Romanian medical students in parasitology, tropical and travel medicine

► Imported tropical infections are expected to increase in Romania and nowadays students are going to face them more often. ► The majority of the 346 questioned students had heard about malaria (97.7%) before studying parasitology. ► About a quarter of those interviewed (26.4%) would agree to practice tropical medicine after graduation. ► Only 4.9% of those interviewed had read at least a scientific paper or book in the field of tropical medicine. ► The majority (71.6%) of the students expressed their wish to practice the specialty of travel medicine.
