▶ SSAO/rVAP-1 mediated oxidation of methylamine kills African trypanosomes in vitro. ▶ SSAO inhibitors block the trypanocidal activity of SSAO/rVAP-1. ▶ Formaldehyde generated in the SSAO/rVAP-1 mediated oxidation of methylamine is responsible for killing trypanosomes.
