Development of an inactivated 3Cpro-3ABC (mu3ABC) ELISA to differentiate cattle infected with foot and mouth disease virus from vaccinated cattle

► Mutated 3ABC (mu3ABC) protein of FMDV was constructed and produced in insect cells. ► mu3ABC protein containing inactive 3Cpro is intact plus easily purified and measured. ► mu3ABC ELISA was developed to differentiate infected from vaccinated animals. ► It has a simple design, reproducible results and high specificity and sensitivity. ► This allows the in house development of a reliable 3ABC ELISA for FMD control.
