Characterization of a monoclonal antibody against the 3D polymerase of enterovirus 71 and its use for the detection of human enterovirus A infection

► A MAb against 3D polymerase of human enterovirus A was isolated and characterized. ► The epitope DFEQALFS corresponds to amino acids 1784-1791 of the EV71 polyprotein. ► 3CD and 3D proteins are present EV71 and CAV16 virus particles. ► Universal detection of HEV-A was shown by immunofluorescence and Western blot. ► A dot blot assay for the detection of EV71 was developed using the MAb.
