Molecular and histological identification of the acanthocephalan Bolbosoma cf. capitatum from the human small intestine

► We performed a specific diagnosis of Bolbosoma sp. in surgical specimen. ► Serial sectioning revealed features of Bolbosoma cf. capitatum. ► Nucleotide sequencing revealed differences from Bolbosoma nipponicum. ► Results provide a reference for identifying Bolbosoma in clinical specimens.
