Exotic and indigenous viruses infect wild populations and captive collections of temperate terrestrial orchids (Diuris species) in Australia

► Four species of Donkey Orchids (Diuris species) were tested for the presence of viruses. ► Deep sequencing revealed the complete genomes of 11 isolates of eight distinct viruses. ► Three potyviruses, two proposed capilloviruses, a polerovirus, and a partitivirus were identified. ► Phylogenetic analyses indicated post-European, pre-European and endemic origins. ► Implications for orchid conservation are discussed.
